Thomas Mann, German writer. Holograph manuscript of speech delivered on 31 Oct 1940 at a dinner in New York for the Emergency Rescue Committee : 27-28 Oct 1940 : (MISC 0043) : 6 p.; chiefly in German, with passages in French and in English. Mann refers to Hitler's "out-of-date Alexander expedition for the conquest of the world. The history which Hitler makes is imitation history, nonsense, a froth of blood. He is not a revolutionary, he is a swindler of history and his bankrupcy [sic] is only a question of time ...".
